- How many Sunday worship services do you have, and what time are they?
We have three services:
- 8:00am - This service is less formal and reminiscent of what you may find in a small chapel service.
- 9:30am - More contemporary in style and music, this service is also less formal. If you like to sing, come join us in songs of worship and praise.
- 11:00am - This is the traditional Methodist worship service. This is a formal service in style and music, with special music and a choir.
- 9:30am & 11:00am - We have Sunday School classes for children through adults.
- I want to visit your church, but I have young kids that I don’t think could sit through a worship service. What can I do?
First United Methodist Church offers a first class nursery
for children aged infant to 3 years of age during all morning services. We’ll give you a pager to carry so that we can reach you if necessary.
At 9:30am, children 3 years through 5th grade may attend Sunday School.
At the 11:00am service, children ages 3 through 5th grade can join you for worship, they will have a storytime during the service and then
we’ll invite them to be escorted to “Rainbow Riders,” for interesting activities. After the service, you may pick them up.
- Do I have to dress up to attend a worship service?
If “dressing up” means wearing a suit or special dress, no you don’t have to.
In fact, you’ll find the 9:30 Sunday morning praise service quite casual, though you probably
won’t find many people in shorts. Some people attending the 8:00 AM and 11 AM services do dress up,
but others wear “workplace” or casual-neat sort of clothes. We recommend that you come to church
in clothes YOU feel comfortable wearing as you check out our church.
- Are there customs in worship that might be strange to me?
We hope that nothing you experience at First United Methodist Church Boca Raton will ever make you uncomfortable, but the "unknown" can make anyone a little uneasy. You might ask:
"Do you all sing a lot?" We sure do! Methodists love to sing.
"Do you recite memorized passages?" Not really, but you might think so because many members are so familiar with our regular service.Everything that happens in the worship service is printed in the Order of Worship that everyone receives as they enter. All page numbers are given for any song or passage used during the service so you can easily follow along. We want you to be comfortable, and most importantly, we just want to meet you.
- Should I visit just a worship service, or perhaps include Sunday School?
Everyone is welcome at Sunday School, as well as our worship services. Greeters are available to give directions, but you could just as easily stop anyone you see and receive a warm welcome and help finding your way. We hope you chose to attend both Sunday School as well as a worship service for you can really get to know us better in a small group setting.
- How do I find my way around the church buildings?
Please review the church campus maps on this web site. But a sure-fire way to find out where to go once you park is to ask anyone you encounter. You’ll find that we’re a very friendly group of people and we’d love to help you find your way.
- What is the meaning of all of these abbreviations or acronyms that I see everywhere?
Click here for the FUMC Alphabet Soup of location decoders and name decoders.
- I have children and I want them to begin attending church-sponsored activities. What does your church do for children?
We have a responsible team of church members to conduct our Sunday School programs, under the leadership of our Director of Christian Education. They meet on Sunday Morning in the Life Enrichment center at 9:30am. In the summer we have Vacation Bible School, and this year we had over 250 children in attendance.
- Do I have to be a member to participate in the church activities or use church services and resources (e.g., Scouting, the Choir/Praise Team, Pre-school, have a child baptized, have a wedding, etc.)?
Visitors and persons who have not made a decision to join are welcome to participate in our activities here at FUMC. This way you will get to know us and we will get to know you.
- How can I join FUMC?
Whether by confession of faith or transfer from a different denomination or transfer from another United Methodist Church, you first enroll in the 6 week class for Inquirers called "Check-It-Out". For more information, please call the church at 561-395-1244 or click here.
